His Majesty the King and His Majesty the King of the Belgians will open the New Lock in Terneuzen on 11 October. Barry Madlener, the Netherlands Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management and Lydia Peeters, the Flemish Minister for Mobility and Public Works will also be present.

North Sea Port Conference will once again be held this year. On Friday 11 October, the port sector will gather in Terneuzen for the annual port conference. This edition will be entirely dedicated to the opening of the New Lock in Terneuzen.

Cargo transhipment in North Sea Port remains stable over first six months
Over the first six months of this year, the companies in North Sea Port recorded a volume of 33.4 million tons of seaborne cargo transhipment. This is the same as in the equivalent period in 2023. Transhipment via inland navigation increased.

Freepoint Eco-Systems Belgium NV and North Sea Port announced (30 May 2024) the signing of a long-term concession agreement for the development of Freepoint Eco-Systems' first advanced recycling facility for plastics in Europe. The facility will be situated in the Kluizendok site in Gent.
Work starts on R4 East and West: complete, safer redesign for ring road around the Ghent part of North Sea Port
On Monday 27 May, the first spade went into the ground for the major works on the R4 East-West ring road around the Ghent part of the port area. By 2031, no fewer than 22 intersections will have been redesigned for safer traffic, cycling and integration with the surrounding port environment.
