Multimodality

Maritime access

North Sea Port is strategically situated within the Western European waterway network, along the Western Scheldt and the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. The Western Scheldt provides a good connection to the North Sea and its international shipping routes to the Atlantic Ocean and the Baltic States, and the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal provides a convenient link to the hinterland.

European corridors

North Sea Port is part of two important transport corridors in the European Union: the North Sea-Rhine-Mediterranean Corridor and the North Sea-Baltic Corridor. As a true multimodal port, we can thus ensure that goods reach their final destination quickly and efficiently, by inland waterway, rail or road.

Hinterland connections

North Sea Port is strategically located within a network of all kinds of transport connections, both via international shipping routes at sea and via multimodal connections with the hinterland. That is why we can transport a range of types of goods smoothly and safely within the European Union. The possibility to choose the most suitable mode for each transport is also an important asset for the companies in our port area.

Infrastructure

Essential for the further development of our port and its companies is the investment in reliable infrastructure. In collaboration with companies and infrastructure managers we are looking for solutions for any weak links in the logistics chain. Some of these activities are currently in full swing.

Digitalisation

Digital data can be regarded as a raw material. North Sea Port is working on collecting this data and developing applications to enable the ever smoother exchange of digital information between companies. This will not only strengthen the logistics chains, but also prevents security from being undermined and enables control by artificial intelligence.
