North Sea Port's European environmental certification renewed
On Wednesday 1 March, North Sea Port was once again awarded the environmental certificate of the European ports association ESPO. North Sea Port remains committed to sustainable port infrastructure, reduced emissions and nature development.
ArcelorMittal Belgium and North Sea Port are to build the North-C Circular industrial estate on ArcelorMittal's Ghent site in order to contribute to a climate-neutral port
North Sea Port, ArcelorMittal Belgium and all the port companies have committed themselves to a climate-neutral port by 2050. This will be achieved by reducing CO2 emissions and further developing the circular economy. To this end, the North-C Circular industrial estate is being developed in Ghent.

On 8 December 2022, the European Commission announced a grant to Fluxys Belgium, North Sea Port and ArcelorMittal Belgium of 9.6 million euros for research on a CO2 terminal in Ghent combined with a CO2 pipeline network to Wallonia.
ArcelorMittal inaugurates groundbreaking Steelanol CCU project in North Sea Port
On Thursday 8 December, ArcelorMittal Ghent inaugurated its new plant for trapping and using carbon from CO2. This €200 million installation is the first of its kind in the European steel industry and one of the projects aimed at reducing CO2 emissions in the Ghent plant and in North Sea Port.
Danish shipping company DFDS extends green corridor in Europe with first all-electric truck in North Sea Port
Denmark's DFDS is taking delivery of 125 all-electric trucks. The first of these e-trucks rolled off the ship into DFDS' terminal in Ghent on Thursday 16 November. This brings the green corridor between Scandinavia and Europe one step closer, with North Sea Port playing a central role.

The issue of green Guarantees of Origin for hydrogen in the Netherlands has started as of October 2022. Netherlands is the first country in Europe with such a system.

North Sea Port records decline in cargo throughput in first quarter of 2024
Seaborne cargo transhipment at North Sea Port fell by 3.2% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2023. The decrease was seen mainly in dry bulk throughput. Transhipment via inland waterways did experience growth.
